National Institute of Horticulture, Angers, France

The National Institute of Horticulture is an academic institution that educates engineers in horticulture, seed science and landscape design and management at a M.Sc. and Ph.D. level. It has academic and applied research programs in partnership with the University of Angers and the National Institute for Research in Agronomy (INRA). The Department of Biology seeks candidates to fill a professorship in plant genetics. A Ph.D., previous postdoctoral and teaching experience is required. Teaching responsibilities include: introductory courses in molecular biology, genetics, management of genetic resources and upper-level courses in the area of expertise. Fluency or willingness to learn French is expected. The appointee will also elaborate teaching programs, advise students and lead an extension program that inform the professional sector in the area of expertise. The candidate will integrate and complement one of the following research groups: 1) Biological Engineering Applied to Horticulture (assessment and characterization of genetic diversity towards breeding of horticultural crops); 2) Molecular Seed Physiology (germination, desiccation tolerance and seed storage). The appointee will develop an innovative research programs that uses emerging methods in genomics in connection with the above research topics. The deadline of application is August 31 2002.
